2 weeks ago I shot my last senior for the Class of 2019! This summer and fall I’ve had a blast working with so many upcoming seniors. I loved going to so many different places and telling each of their own unique stories. Here’s some of my favorites from each senior shoot and a little recap on what happened at each!
(i’m also going to be going in alphabetical order of seniors instead of the order in which I shot them just because thats how the folders are saved on my computer (: )
Meet Alicia! Her and her mom were so laid back during this shoot which allowed me to have a lot of creative freedom. We went to Crandall Park, Glensfalls during golden hour and I love seeing the golden bokeh balls in the background of these shots. The only bad thing about this shoot was that it was nearly 90 degrees out, so thank you to Alicia and her mom and my assistant, Paige for sticking it through the intense heat and humidity for that long.
Next, meet Aleigha! Her shoot lasted about 2 hours at this amazing waterfall location in Corinth, NY. Her mom tagged along to help with outfit changes and any other assistance we needed. I loved how nice they both were and her mom was actually super trendy and fun (so I knew we would get along well!) We started with some photos in the woods and near the river, slowly working our way down to the waterfall. The ending was incredible. I personally just expected Aleigha to get some photos done in front of the water fall, but she was willing to get in the water and they turned out to be some of my favorite shots. I also ended up getting completely wet by going in, but it was totally worth it, especially because I didn’t drop my camera in the water!
Next we have Amber! At first she was really quiet but I was happy to make her smile and break through her shell a little bit. The most genuine smile that I got out of her was when someone driving by screamed, “Yes Queen!” out of their car window while we were shooting. We took photos on the bike trail near Sprinkles in Queensbury, NY. It’s not a typical location to shoot, but I love the bridge that is there and there was also a wild flower patch right on the side of the path. I was also so happy with the lighting because it was a thin cloud cover which made any sun peaking through super soft!
Meet Brandon! The weather was absolutely against us during this shoot :( . We rescheduled once because it was pouring all day and on our next date to shoot, it still rained, just not as hard. We went to one of my go to spots for indoor portraits, The Shirt Factory in Glensfalls. I love it for it’s artsy feel and the old character to the building. There are also a lot of windows and we all know that i’m about that natural light! Brandon was open to whatever and halfway through the shoot we went outside even though it was raining a little. Thanks for getting rained on with me! Also I thought it was so cute that Brandon’s little brother tagged along.
Next, meet Celina! Celina was an old childhood friend of mine so it was cool to reconnect with her and I was honored to do her senior portraits. I love how happy and bright her personality is and I really tried to capture that in these photos. We went to Saratoga, NY to take these and did a combination of urban and nature shots! The golden hour light was absolutely stunning that day. In many of the photos there is more of a warm tone vibe opposed to cool (which is normally what I like in my photographs) but the warms were too beautiful not to love!
Meet Chesnie! The first time I met her I had to ask her how to pronounce her name because its pretty unique, but personally I love names that are out of the ordinary. Chesnie wanted wild flowers, but because we did her senior portraits in early October, they were hard to come by. We headed over to the east side of Queensbury, NY where it is a little more swampy and there were still some flowers out. We shot at SUNY ADK in a field right next to the campus parking lot. With the flowers of course came bees, and I unfortunately got stung through my pant leg about halfway through the session. I’m glad it was only me though! There was also a corn field next to the field that was cut down a day before the session, but I ended up liking the outcome of the harvested corn rows. The sunlight was also really nice even though it rained earlier that day and Chesnie’s beautiful hair color went perfectly with the rest of the landscapes color palette.
Meet Grace! Grace is definitely one of the most genuine fun loving people that I’ve met. Her sense of adventure is so prominent and she’s someone that I was definitely able to joke around with and not take things so serious while shooting. We went to Saratoga, NY and explored around the backstreets a little. Once it got closer to sunset, I knew that the light was going to be impeccable, but most of the buildings were blocking it directly. We walked to a nearby parking garage and hiked to the top. OH MY LORD the light was amazing! it was a hot pink/red hue sunset. I couldn’t think of a better way to end the shoot.
Next, meet Julia! I loved Julia’s willingness to try anything and she had a lot of artsy ideas. It was so easy to make conversation with her and create some beautiful images. We went to the Saratoga Springs Spa State Park for her 2 hour session and migrated from the natural springs to the hall of springs. Some of my favorite images were where she was surrounded by flowers, not only cause, you know flowers are pretty, but I felt like her genuine smile came out the most in those ones.
Next we have Kiana! I had previously done Kiana’s prom pictures (along with Aleigha’s and I forgot to mention that up top) They had a bigger group of girls and gals that were really fun to photograph. Kiana, her family, boyfriend and I went to Yaddo Gardens in Saratoga, NY for her 2 hour session. Her boyfriend was a big help when I needed a little extra assistance and although so many other interesting photographers were there at the time, we still managed to get beautiful photos! I love the beauty of this place. Even the untrimmed nature of the woods are beautiful compared to the fountain and the gardens. I also thought Kiana’s yellow dress was so pretty! Not a lot of people can pull of that color, but it complimented her so nicely! Also um her eyes!!!!!
Meet Lindsay! From the moment I met her I could tell she was the type of person to brighten up anyone’s day. We went to Shelving Rock Falls in NY for her senior session. I loved Lindsay’s adventurous spirit because this was no ordinary shoot! I wouldn’t call it a hike, but it was a long walk in the woods. I was so surprised by Lindsay’s (and her mom’s permission) willingness to climb up the waterfall with my assistant and I. We were definitely risking it for the biscuit, but I made sure we were being as safe as possible. We got to the middle of the falls and off to the left there is a naturally carved bowl in the rock that is rich in color from the minerals. It was a tricky spot to get to, but it was worth the effort. My only sadness about it was that it started to rain shortly after reaching that point so we had to climb down because the rocks became slippery fast! At the end, Lindsay, my assistant and I all got in the still Lake George waters by Log Bay to wrap up.
Meet Logan! Logan has been a returning client and I’ve photographed him multiple times in the past for different formals. Logan is a pretty chill dude and I’ve enjoyed taking pictures of him over the past couple years! During this shoot in Saratoga, NY, I kept saying to Logan that he already had the poses down. So many seniors are hesitant on posing and such during their shoot, which is fine because I can pose you, but after 15 minutes of shooting most people start to feel comfortable and are nailing poses naturally. That’s exactly what happened and I swear he looked like a model for a magazine. I also thought Logan was pretty stylish so that may have helped :)
Next meet (also) Logan! Yes I shot with two different Logan’s this year. Logan was super laid back and was down for basically anything I wanted to do creatively. Don’t let his tee shirt fool you though! It was in the low 40s and we experienced some pretty cold winds and even a few flurries. This wasn’t the most ideal weather predicament for a shoot, but we sure as hell made It work! We started out with a few photos at his school’s football field in Fort Edward, NY, made our way down to a local nature park, then finished up by some railroad tracks. No, I do not recommend for anyone to go on railroad tracks for any purposes, but as the saying goes, “Do as I say, not as I do.”
Meet Phoebe! Phoebe was so cute and smiley through her session. We shot at Crandall Park in Glensfalls, NY. Both outfits that she brought were so cute and definitely contrasted beautifully against the very green backgrounds. There happened to be soccer games at Crandall this day, but luckily in a different part of the park than where we were shooting. It was an overcast day, so we started at the darkest part of the park near the trees and worked our way outward towards the ponds. What I really enjoyed most was being able to interact with such genuine people, Phoebe and her mom!
Next meet Ryan! Ryan is a younger brother to one of my good friends from high school, so i’ve interacted with him before, just not without his older brother. I could tell that Ryan wasn’t the most keen on getting his senior portraits done, just like a lot of others, but I really believe i did a good job of making it a fun experience! I hate having people posed all stiff or making them uncomfortable in anyway, and I like to do more interaction to make them more comfortable. Moving around also passes the time quicker! Ryan’s shoot was in Lake George Village, NY and we went from the bike trail, to Battlefield Park, to the lake. I’m really happy with all of these and especially the photos where I got Ryan to smile genuinely!
Meet Sabina! Her senior session was also in Lake George, NY. This location is always a go to because of the natural beauty it displays. I loved Sabina’s complexion, her outfits, and her personality for this location! I loved how Sabina and her mom were so open to ideas and even brought a few of their own! My by far favorite was the photo of Sabina with the yellow flowers! The color palette, her eyes and smile, and the mood really draws me in. Lake George, you’ve done me good once again! These tones are just incredible!
Meet Selah! Selah has been a friend of mine for many years now and I often refer to her as Sunchild. She’s so bright and hopefully and so deeply rooted in art and music. When she told me she wanted to do her senior portraits at a sunflower field, I knew that it was perfect for her. She told me that she had been waiting to do this for years and the anticipation was soon over after nearly a 4 hour drive to Cliftlon Springs, NY. We traveled a ways to Fredrick Farms and were blown away by they massive sunflower farm. I honestly never pictured it being as large as it was. While the trip was an adventure in itself and we were fighting the oncoming storm, I was so happy to have captured these photos for Selah and would never take back this experience!
Next, meet Skye! This senior shoot was in Bolton Landing, NY on a beautiful property on the lake! Skye was awesome to work with because she knew how to take life not so seriously. She’s really unique because of her quirkiness and she’s actually pretty funny once you talk to her. I love how big and bright her eyes are and all of her other features compliment her perfectly. The end of this shoot was my favorite because we had Skye standing in the water and a family of ducks floated by. What could be cuter than that!
Last but not least, meet Taylor! Her and her boyfriend came to this senior session to work with me at Hovy Pond in Queensbury, NY. I loved Taylor’s whole look she had going on with a white flowy dress, her perfectly curled hair, and eyes that popped against her complexion. Also, i’m very jealous of her gorgeous lashes! Taylor was super laid back and I enjoyed capturing her natural beauty in this setting. I also really enjoyed taking a few photos of her and her running shoes! I love when seniors want to incorporate a passion or hobby into their shoot!
And if you’ve made it this far thanks for taking some time to check out my work and seeing what amazing seniors I had the privilege of photographing this past season! Im looking forward to next summer and working with the next upcoming class of 2020!
